There’s nothing better than a delicious and guilt free smoothie that’s put together with some of your favorite fruits and vegetables. These are those great drinks that you love to buy any time of year but especially during the summer. These wonderful smoothies taste great and give your body everything it craves and needs.
But, have you ever gone home and tried to make your own homemade smoothies and for some reason they just don’t taste like the ones the pros make? Doesn’t make much sense does it? No matter how hard you have tried they either taste too green, they’re too icy or something just doesn’t seem right. Don’t give up because that doesn’t have to be. If you try following some of these tricks, tips, secrets, whatever you want to call them, you should be making great tasting and healthy homemade smoothies in no time at all.
Make Sure to Use Only Freshest Ingredients
When you use the freshest possible fruits and veggies for your homemade smoothies, your smoothies are always going to taste better than using older fruits and veggies. There is a huge taste difference. By using the freshest ingredients is also going to maximize the nutrient rich potential that your homemade smoothies have in them.
The best rule of thumb to follow when it comes to buying produce is to use the fruit within the first three days of buying it and within the first five days of buying your veggies. This is when they’ll be at their peak in freshness and will help make better tasting homemade smoothies.
Consider Investing in a Restaurant Grade Blender
Sad to say, the regular inexpensive blender doesn’t cut it these days, if you want your homemade smoothies tasting like a pro made it. In order to get that same type of smoothie you really might want to consider investing in a very high performance blender with multiple speeds. This is going to guarantee that you will create a very well-blended drink and it also lets you use much hardier and more great tasting ingredients like almond butter and/or granola.
Probably one of the best choices for making professional style homemade smoothies would be the Vitamix or something very similar to it in quality.
Never Be Afraid to Experiment
If you are looking for an exotic taste for your homemade smoothies then you’re going to have to be willing to experiment with different fruits and different flavors you
Forget about what I said in the last post on being pear-shaped. Then again, don’t. If you think you’re shaped like a pear, why don’t you strip yourself down naked and have another look at yourself in the mirror. Chances are good that you’re much closer to being the perfectly shaped woman. Women are naturally more rounded at the hips in any case. But if you’ve been heaving, huffing and puffing lately, then maybe it’s because of those love handles you’ve accumulated around the stomach area. That is not good. It’s usually an accumulation of excess fat that the men in our lives pack around them, and it’s usually because they have been physically inactive for a number of years and have been eating junk which is bad for them.
The same goes for those overweight women who now have those same excess accumulations around the abdomen area. It’s time to get rid of it. It’s not looking good and it’s highly uncomfortable, especially when you find yourselves no longer being able to squeeze into your favorite designer numbers that you spent a fortune on. So, today I thought I’d introduce you to the weird and wacky but absolutely wonderful world of smoothies for weight loss. I also thought I’d have a go at all the other essentials, food and otherwise, that you’ll not only need to lose weight but get back into shape, pear-shaped or not, and healthy again.
I’m also going to need to have a chat with you about the need to exercise and always be physically active in order to keep your shape and to stay light on your feet. Because if you go back to sitting on the couch after your first smoothie, green-leafed salad and pretty much nothing else, you’re going to be so low key in the energy department, you might not even want to get up in the morning. That would be a real bummer. You need to realize right from the get go that whether you’re drinking a smoothie for breakfast or dieting across the board to lose weight, there are important factors, such as enriching yourself with protein, to keep off the pounds and look after your new health and fitness requirements.
Smoothies with pears
Let’s say this for a joke. I’ve been using the delicious naturally sugared pear as a delightful metaphor to describe women’s moods and feelings regarding their shape and size.
Juxtapositioning the genres keeps away the boredom.
So far, I’ve mentioned at least two book genres; the biography and the short story anthology. I also mentioned one of the greatest writers of all time, Ms Jane Austen. Or, at least I consider her to be one of the greats since the time prophetic words of wisdom were being transcribed by studious and attentive scribes and the work of the Greek philosophers and classicists. The Prophet Mohamed, Peace Be upon Him, even had his own scholars to put down in writing what he experienced by way of Revelations from the great Almighty.
Jesus Christ, some creative playwrights and song writers were audacious enough to brand Him as a Superstar, had His own scribes too. And it’s nice to know that the ties that bind us all together is the literature that takes us all the way back to the Father Abraham. I’m supposed to be chatting to you about books I’m reading, but let me get this off of my chest right now before I never have another chance to do so.
I mention them in alphabetical order just to be fair. What do Christianity, Judaism and Islam have in common? Among the many things to do with faith, religion and human and spiritual love, devout Christians, Jews and Muslims recognize that Abraham is a father to us all. It was from him that a long line of ascendants followed. Judaism is the ancient religion. After Christ was Crucified, the seeds He planted grew into Christianity.
Islam is still the new religion. As we speak, it continues to grow. And long may it. In the present I dismiss out of hand the ignorance that manifests itself among any men and women who profess themselves to be from one of the three faiths just mentioned. Those of you with spiritual leanings of your own can come up with numerous examples of such ignorance which in many cases has resulted in tragedies of epic proportions.
As I seem to recall, it took a great Muslim Emperor to put the corrupt Crusaders in their place in the Middle East. But many centuries later the entire world’s people, no matter what their religion, man and especially woman, or where they are from is dealing with the scourge of the deranged men who call themselves the true harbingers of the Prophet Muhammad – PBUH. A true scholar will tell you that
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
who is the fairest of them all?
That line comes from one of the first stories I ever heard as a young girl. Today, it remains one of my favorite stories. It’s also nice to see that as a timeless classic, this particular story endures. It also must have been repeated so many times in modern classics, twenty-first century romance, literary and thrilling fiction tomes. The craving for attention and sometimes the vanity that is part of our human nature that goes with it helps add excitement, drama and suspense to the many stories that we read and watch.
Yes, we even watch our favorite stories. Many of you, like me sometimes, are just too darn tired on some days to spend even an hour of concentrated focus reading a good book. Instead, we fall to the temptations of our favorite couch, lean back or curl up, switch on the TV and watch whatever is an attraction to us. Many of you are fans of the daily soap. I almost typed out soup. Perhaps I was thinking of that more than soaps.
Although, I wouldn’t mind having a look around for some nice, aromatic and rose petal smelling soaps to spruce up my bathroom. I wouldn’t mind purchasing a few scented candles to get rid of the pongs in my small apartment. My bedroom window is open, so fresh air is wafting through it as I busily type out this post for you. I’m having a bit of a problem with my hearing lately, so can’t hear the birds tweeting outside.
I do hope to see some of them when I head out for a quick walk just now. This is something I simply must do. I’m feeling a bit stiff now and it is likely that I am going to be busy at my desk for most of this day. No complaints, mind you. A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do, right? It’s good that way. At least I can fend for myself. Work pays the rent and for all the other daily necessities.
Now, I must make provision for the doctor too. That’s life. I was thinking of soup just now. It’s a bright and sunny day where I am but there’s a cold chill coming along with the mist that seems to be heading our way from the Atlantic shoreline. Never mind that. It’s
Here is also a story about a love doctor.
Oh dear. For a moment my mind almost went blank. I almost forgot who this love doctor was. I’m going to tell you a short story about this famous doctor and another man who created him. Yes, Dr. Zhivago is not a real person. He is a work of fiction. Dr. Zhivago, to my mind, is one of the greatest (and most tragic) love stories ever told. This exceptional man’s love, by the way, stretches way beyond the love he felt for just one and two good women.
Those late night DJs who proclaim themselves as love doctors have nothing in comparison to this great protagonist. At the very least, they are pelting out agreeably melodious rhythm and blues classics for late night lovers. At their utmost worst, they are turning the latest hits which leave nothing to the imagination in regard to its base and suggestive lyrics. Now, I need to point out that I’m no prude.
I am just as liberal and open minded as the next modern woman, especially those who are independent and free-spirited. But come on ladies, where’s the creativity and skill in concocting such rubbish. A quick and easy scribble on the notepad has led to many a hip-hop artist and pop star producing a mega-million dollar hit. But every now and again, you get women who are very good with the creation of their lyrics.
You get girls like Enya and Adele. There are countless others. Joni Mitchell does not count. Her music breaks my heart. There are guys out there who know how to creatively produce good lyrics and imaginative and toe-tapping songs all about love. I’m not a Madonna fan. Boy, has she aged (un)well. Age catches you eventually. But more than twenty years ago she put out one decent record which I used to listen to over and over again.
It was called True Blue. One of the songs on that album was called Love Makes the World Go Round. While I was thinking about how to compose this post, I suddenly had that song in mind, after all these years. But I had been thinking a lot more about the great Russian poet, Boris Pasternak, and his timeless modern classic and love story, Dr Zhivago. I have the paperback version of this book on my shelf.
I am itching to begin reading it. I have a
Hi guys! Welcome, welcome, welcome. While this is a very serious issue I’m raising with you guys today, I want you all to just relax. The moment we all start stressing is when things tend to go all pear-shaped. Health and fitness issues facing women today is no laughing matter but I can laugh at those women who hate being what they call pear-shaped. I can’t see why this issue of how the body is shaped should be a problem. More important to me is the matter of being healthy and fit one time.
Stop being vain
One big reason why so many women truly fail to become completely healthy is that they are too focused on how they look and on how others, especially the men, perceive them. When that happens, their dieting and exercising plans go all pear-shaped. In a desperate bid to lose weight, they ignore important food groups such as protein and those containing healthy fats. Salads are all good, fine and dandy, containing next to no fat at all, but on its own, don’t do the dieting woman’s health any good.
Stress is known as a silent killer, and it seems to be affecting more and more women today. This has got to do with the pressures of life, certainly, but a lot of the pressure on their shoulders is caused by the women themselves. While busy housewives have their own typical issues, let us not forget the single, overweight woman who, depressed witless, tries in vain to comfort herself with junk food on her couch that end up leaving her full for a while but more empty, emotionally and physiologically speaking, by the time the next day arrives.
Learn to say no
Part of the reason why many women struggle so much in life, no matter what their cultural or socio-economic circumstances, is that they just can’t stop and say no. they are too eager to want to please others in order to be liked and loved a little bit more. Healthy exercise regimes and time spent outdoors over weekends, alone or with like minded friends becomes indicative of the proverbial ‘me time’. It is also a new thing to practice learning to say no to the body that might still be craving helpings from the ice cream tub or pizza hut.
Look after yourself first
Where women’s health and fitness is concerned, so much more can be achieved in
Have I told you lately that I love you?
That song comes from the Irish folksinger, Van Morrison. I don’t know his music well at all but this is the one song that I can recall over and over again. Good music never dies. Most of you have listened to it over the years. Some of you will be Van Morrison fans. If you are from that generation, some of you will have been Jim Morrison fans. Not me. These days I just cannot stand music that depresses.
I don’t want to hear depressing lyrics about pain and worse. I contradict myself here slightly because I’m a big fan of Sylvia Plath’s poetry. I am slowly but surely getting into the meat and potatoes of her work and that of her great lover, the famous British poet laureate, Ted Hughes. I want to do a compare and contrast paper someday chronicling the endless cycle of words of love between these two famous lovers.
I contradict myself because many of the words that Sylvia wrote had to do with the pain that she felt and eventually, perhaps, led to her suicide. Every girl loves poetry surely. And did you know that good poetry does not need to rhyme at all. I found this difficult to do when I was just starting out, always trying to find words that rhymed, like Shakespeare and the many other famous poets that followed him did.
Good poetry, especially today, is just so metaphorical and it’s loaded with symbolism. It depicts the poet’s observations of life and the objects that surround her. It’s a great way to talk about love in not so many ways if you get my drift. The Old Testament Bible has a book called the Song of Songs. Perhaps those words are dated by now because it’s very tacky if you don’t mind me saying so.
But for amorous lovers, this is still perfect. I’d like to get my hands on the writings on the Prophet Muhammad – Peace be upon Him – someday. Yes, even he was known to have composed beautiful odes with love as its motif. Oh, and by the way, love makes the world go round. In spite of the mess created by the morons of the world, there’s still plenty of it to go round.
It’s usually creative people like you and me, and brave men and women of this world dishing out
I’m typing this blog post on eco-friendly paper.
A little girl, you couldn’t blame her, she is still quite young and like most youngsters her age, has a curious mind; had to ask me; Auntie Cara, what is a tree hugger. Taking the statement literally, the girl understands that much. But it would seem odd to her watching a man or woman hug a tree in the park. The tree is never going to hug him or her back. And while this odd pair of tree huggers is hugging trees in the park, people may stare.
I’m typing this blog post on my version of eco-friendly paper.
If I was more than qualified to give enthusiastic tree huggers a short word of advice, let it be this. Good and well that you are hugging trees in the public sphere. Most folks may think you are weird, some may even think that you are blatantly showing off in order to make your point about the important need to conserve and grow as many trees as possible. I’m shy, so I’ll probably just take myself to the forest some day and give one or two trees a nudge, just to show them that I do care, even though I’m not living out this care at the moment.
My version of eco-friendly paper is my laptop screen.
I feel so bad about the amount of paper and, worse, plastic, we are wasting today. I’m now well aware of just how much our nasty habits are destroying our natural environment which we all need, in any case, to survive. If I could, and if I had the courage to do this, I would lobby for an outright ban on the use of all forms of plastic, period. It has already been proven that there are more than enough sustainable alternatives for us to use instead of killing the sea’s fish and birds at alarming rates.
Do something useful with your current reams of paper, don’t throw it away.
What can little me (and you) really do in this (not so) big world to make a difference? Well, quite a lot, actually. And it all starts right here at the workstation, study desk, office desk, or whatever you like to call your working space. Where paper is concerned, try not printing anything off of your printer. Better still; get rid of the thing as soon as you can. I did not too
Is this love – is this love – that I’m feeling?
I was feeling rather playful and humorous when I wrote the lines verbatim to the famous Bob Marley Reggae song. I can’t remember how old I was when I first heard this song on the radio but to me, it sounded as though this Reggae legend was very much in love. So, while I’ve never been a fan of his music and Reggae in general, I had to enter this number as one of my favorites for the day.
It’s a nice tune to hum to whenever you’re in the mood for love.
I went through a few bleak days, and today the sun is shining gloriously, giving us all a break to catch up on our outdoor chores and spend time outdoors, fortunate that it is the weekend, or was at the time of writing this post. I guess it’s up to our content manager, so I can’t be sure when this post is published and online. But my writing, I think, remains on cue, it does not matter what we are talking about, and can be read at any time of the day or month.
I have love in my veins.
Even though I am still feeling a bit tetchy about my week ahead. I should not be complaining. After all, I have much to do. It would be very worrying indeed if I had nothing to do, or chose just to lay about feeling sorry for myself and doing nothing. I’m not going to recall any religious verses, I’m quite sure that no matter the religion, they are all quite similar anyway. After all, we all believe in the same Maker, right.
Anyway, this feeling of fulfillment that quickly surpassed the worry over the week ahead reminds me of the old nursery rhyme about one Elsie Marley. Work it out, but her time was long, long before Bob Marley’s rise to fame. And, so by the way, Elsie and Bob are definitely not related. Marley was a real life visionary, many conservatives and fundamentalists say that he wasn’t so, but the Reggae poet and singer was actually quite a religious man.
Unless I am very much mistaken, it is fair to say that he basically put Reggae and Jamaica on the map. Today, apart from a few million devotees across the world, the music and its religion is pretty much forgotten. Today, when
In the beginning He created everything for us
No matter what religion you practice, no matter what sect, denomination or religion your family brought you up on, no matter what religion you chose to follow to give truth to your spiritual feelings, you all believe that somewhere back in the beginning of time, He created the world that we live in. You believe that He created the universe and the stars and planets that flicker or stand still within it. Some of those planets orbit our world. Some of those planets, along with the earth, orbit that great ball of fire known to us as the sun.
Some of us believe that this great sun is but one of a few in the galaxies out there. We also know that many of those stars out there died thousands of years ago. Today, more and more evidence is being put forward that there were once worlds out there very similar to the small one we live in today. Some of those planets were by far much larger than our planet. I wonder to myself what a marvelous world it must have been, once upon a time.
But now they are no more
There are those of you who do not believe that our world, the universe and the galaxies were created by Him. To you, no such entity exists and no such force could have created what I’ve just mentioned above. Some of you will be referring studiously to Darwin’s theory of evolution. But as far as I am concerned; therein lies the rub, as once quoted by the greatest English-speaking story teller and writer of all time, Sir William Shakespeare. During his era too, women showed the world that they were more than capable of ruling the earth, in fact, they could be far more adept at doing this than men
Queen Elizabeth the First kept the Spanish Armada at bay. She turned England into a great nation. Around the time of Darwin, Queen Victoria was in the throes of her long reign. She pretty much took over the entire world, much against the will of Him who I am sure once said that the earth and all its resources and living things should be shared fairly and equitably. How much more we could have learned and appreciated from each other had we been obedient.
And so here we are. The world is in quite a
